Album Review

Terpandre (also the band's name) features beautiful '70s symphonic prog rock blended with touches of jazz fusion (this combination works well in this CD), but the album is on the melodic side, given by violin, piano (acoustic and electric), some synthesizers, and the Mellotron (played by Pina and Tardieu). The last one is clearly all over the album, mostly strings and flutes, but with some nice cello on one song. The flutes are the highlights, mainly in the track "Anne-Michaële." "Carrousel" is the suite of the album and also the high point of this CD. Both of the bonus tracks are live (and one never released before) with not so good sound quality (this is probably the main reason for no live tracks as bonus material — even the band had a lot of live and also studio material). Overall, Terpandre offer a strong style of prog rock that should satisfy most listeners. Much of the music is very melodic (don't expect anything complex), but highly recommended to fans of prog rock and Mellotron. If you are into melody then this CD has plenty to offer.

In 1969, Monerri quit his first-year law studies and became a professional musician, joining another local band as their new guitarist. After a residence in a discotheque during the summer of 1969, Monerri...
