The Ingenious of Industrial (Before Its Time)

More people need to write reviews on this album. It is a Skinny Puppy masterpiece! Their ingenious shows on this like all others and beyond, and there are so many layers of depth in electronics and industrial noise that it is easy to get lost in; it will bring you to an altered state completely. They originally made 40 to 50 songs for this one album, designed mixed and created for just this purpose, and they chose their favorite nine to be released. Can you imagine what it would be like to see Skinny Puppy's full set of recorded history? From what I've heard, just a fraction of it would be intimidating. These guys work constantly to perfect their music and make it worth listening to, and they have a lot to say. One of them unfortunately died seven years after this release. But Skinny Puppy always touches up on the subjects that others always try to avoid, and this is one album that really should not be missed. I strongly recommend this album.

Great early industrial awakening

I was explosed to SP after delving deep into NIN and learning that it was involved in their essence. Im a huge NIN fan and long time SP fan! Rough tracks, underlying songs, great sampling and an almost disturbingly comforting groove pulls you into a hypnotic state and wont let you go with out a fight. Love em.

A true masterpiece

There are few bands, and even fewer albums that can alter and adjust one's mood. Vivisect VI is one such album. Skinny Puppy is one such band. Always on the pioneering horizon, these Canadian Electro masters prove that marching to one's own drum, whether it be a real one or a drum machine, is always a good thing. With Ogre growling and shouting cryptic rants and cEvin Key pulling masterful synth sounds from thin air alongside the now at rest Dwayne Goettel, Skinny Puppy have never failed to shock and awe. Vivisect Vi brings to the forefront the social ill of animal experimentation and chemical warfare. With the opening track, Vivisect delivers a gut punch of harsh electro you never recover from, even after the album is finished. Each track, from the haunting Harsh Stone White, to the creepy Who's Laughing Now? to the thought provoking Testure deliver an experience unlike anything heard before it and rarely heard afterward. Simply said, Vivisect VI is an experience unlike any other, both harsh and soothing at the same time. Enraging yet caring. As a Puppy Person since 1989, I believe this cd to be one of their finest. Not to be missed.

Drawing from the pioneering work of artists like Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, and Suicide, the dark avant-industrial group Skinny Puppy formed in 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Originally a duo comprised of former Images in Vogue drummer cEvin Key (born Kevin Crompton) and Nivek Ogre (aka Kevin Ogilvie), Skinny Puppy followed their debut cassette, Back and Forth, with the EP Remission, the first of many recordings with producer David "Rave" Ogilvie, in 1984.
