Album Review

Vol. 13 in the Dave Matthews Band Live Trax series was recorded at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO, in June of 2008. The band was joined by guests Tim Reynolds on guitar and Rashawn Ross on trumpet, and performed material ranging from old standards like "Ants Marching" and "Tripping Billies" to new cuts such as "Cornbread," "Louisiana Bayou," and "#27." As has been the norm, there are a couple of choice covers included: Neil Young's "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" and the now ubiquitous reading of Sly Stone's classic "Thank You (Falettin Me Be Mice Elf Agin)." Matthews writes good songs, but the jams get very predictable, very quickly. The bottom line is, if you are a DMB fanatic, you'll need this; if not, there is little here to convince you that you need to be.

Customer Reviews

Whoever wrote that review is an idiot. This is a great album jampacked with some of their best new music, and fresh looks at some classics. Not to mention one of the last live shows from an amazingly talented musical phenom who died in his prime. I'm obviously a huge fan, but to disrepect such a talented group of musicians who are going through such trying times is truly offensive. I'm glad I paid more $ and bought this album at local record store from peeps who still appreciate good music. RIP Le'Roi. We Miss You, and your music will live forever in spite of Itunes....

Rest In Peace

Formed in the early '90s by South African vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews, the Dave Matthews Band presented a more pop-oriented version of the Grateful Dead crossed with elements of jazz, funk, and the worldbeat explorations of Paul Simon and Sting. Matthews populated the group with several Virginia-based musicians -- bassist Stefan Lessard, saxophonist Leroi Moore, violinist Boyd Tinsley, drummer Carter Beauford, and short-lived keyboardist Peter Griesar -- and the band built up a strong word-of-mouth...
