iTunes Review

After pioneering country-rock with The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons kept pushing the envelope with his solo debut. On the one hand, he continued making old-school country contemporary, whether covering the George Jones weeper "That's All It Took" or blending honky-tonk and soul on his own "Big Mouth Blues." On the other, he took the singer/songwriter path in new directions, coupling complex imagery with country arrangements on tunes like "The New Soft Shoe." The rest of the world is still playing catch-up.

It took 40 years for me to find this album. Don't make the same mistake. I have no good excuse. This is a work of pure genius.

Motel Lonesome Blues

I love this's so full of great songs delivered with such passion by Gram &Emmylou that you can almost feel like you've been on the road so long that you can't remember where you're going. I've listened to this album over and over again, and I still get weepy.

I knew of him, but didn't know him until now

I'm from Waycross Georgia and knew about the legend of Gram. Finally I really know his music. He blazed the trail. He was way ahead of his time. His music is really pure and real, unlike most of what you hear as new, today. I'm sorry it took me so long to find this pure, from the heart music. Great, great album!

While he was alive, Parsons was a cult figure that never sold many records but influenced countless fellow musicians, from the Rolling Stones to...
