Notas editoriales de iTunes

The Loose Salute’s 2007 debut, Tuned to Love, tapped into the sunny melodies and wide-eyed wonder of bygone California canyon-rock albums like The Byrds’ Notorious Byrd Brothers or The Mamas & the Papas' If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears. Likewise, its 2011 sophomore album plays with the slightly darkened cynicism found on records like John Phillips’ John, the Wolf King of L.A. or Joni Mitchell’s Blue, most noticeably in the beautifully melancholic “Hermosa.” With his wistful and wise-sounding voice, Ian McCutcheon sings like a younger Neil Halstead (having played with Halstead in Slowdive and Mojave 3 must have worn off). The opening “It’s a Beautiful Thing” is a modern-day folk-rock ballad with sweeping strings, prominent tambourine, and lyrics that are poetic without being maudlin. Where Lisa Billson unleashed vocal gymnastics on the preceding album, here she exercises more tasteful restraint to match McCutcheon’s whispery tone. Resulting songs like the twangy and uplifting “Run out of Morning” resonate with effortless cool.
