Customer Reviews

It certainly is the original Betty Boop as portrayed by Mae Questal.

The previous reviewer should do some research before shooting his/her mouth off.
These are DEFINITELY recordings from the FLeischer cartoons and most certainly are original. Betty's voice was the voice of Mae Questal who also did the voice of Olive Oyl in the Fleischer Popeye cartoons. She was also the voice of WInky DInk for those of you old enough to remember the '50s TV show.
The Fleischer studios were sued in the 30's by Helen Kane who Betty Boop was certainly imitating and in a landmark decision it was ruled that anyone in the public eye can be imitated as long as there is no libel intended. The result is that Helen Kane the living person is all but forgotten and Betty Boop a cartoon character lives on.
It can be argued anyway that Questal was as talented as Kane.
Mae Questal had a long and varied career and was last seen in the Woody Allen segment of New York Stories as his mother in the sky.

This album demonstrates Questal's marvelous talent and is a wonderful testament to its time.

this is awesome and amazing

These are late 1920s recordings by singer Helen Kane. Betty Boop was based on Kane, but Kane did not voice the cartoon character. It is misleading to call this a "Betty Boop" album or to ID the vocalist as BB. Give credit where due. These are not cartoon soundtrack recordings. Be forewarned. The original performances are great, but these transfers sound like they were overprocessed for modern hi-fi. Find better transfers of Helen Kane elsewhere. Avoid this collection.
