Album Review

One of, if not the most impressive Swedish metal debut, Soilwork's Steelbath Suicide belongs on everyone's short list of must-have '90s metal offerings. The Soilwork brand of death metal will remind a few listeners of countrymen In Flames for sure, but vocalist Björn Strid, guitarists Peter Wiche and Ola Frenning, drummer Henry Ranta, bassist Ola Fink, and keyboardist Carlos Del Olmo Holmberg mark off a little thrash-tinged Viking metal territory of their own on Steelbath Suicide, before furthering their sound, which is remarkable on the follow-up The Chainheart Machine. Highlights from this debut include "In Close Encounter" and "The Wings of Domain," which both feature spectacular work from Wiche and Frenning. Each member contributes nicely to Steelbath Suicide, making the group one of Swedish metal's most technically well-rounded. A strong recording, this 1998 debut is highly recommended. [Listenable's 2008 edition included one bonus cut.]

Soilwork's old material is the finest

Everything up to A Predator's Portrait is perfection. Steelbath Suicide, Chainheart Machine, A Predator's Portrait. Something was magical with those albums that worked. I love all Soilwork but after Natural Born Chaos they changed their formula, and the guitar and solos werent nearly as strong. Steelbath Suicide is the definition of classic gothensburg melodic death metal. 10/10 album

....

Itunes, make up your mind. I think this is the 4th time you guys have Re-Added this album after deleting it... everyones bought it now. You want more money for this band and lovers of heavy metal? well here is a hint. You know those two songs 'Wherever Thorns May Grow' and 'Killed by Ignition' (both by Soilwork) that you have on the Japanese Itunes server but not on this one. Ya, those are two songs are two of the most famous songs in the heavy metal world. I don't see why you don't just keep all the songs equal in each itunes. How come japan gets those two songs and america doesnt eh? Consider it.

P.S. If you haven't, by Sadistic Lullabye.

debut

Yes a good debut.Problem is they just kept improving with minor bumps along the way so this record is medi-oker.This Bands body of work is among the best out there.Buy all of their stuff.

The Swedish metal sextet Soilwork formed in early 1997, fusing the country's signature ultra-heavy death metal sound with the power-groove riffs of late-'70s, early-'80s British and European metal. Vocalist Bjorn "Speed" Strid, guitarists Peter Wiches and Ola Frenning, and drummer Henry Ranta were all veterans of the Swedish scene by the time they recorded their first demo, In Dreams We Fall into the Eternal, in 1997; bassist Ola Flink became a permanent member afterward, as did keyboardist Carlos...
