Album Review

From the same streets as the Dictators, and possessing the same lighthearted-but-heavy-souled gutter grind as Handsome Dick's clique, the Giraffes detract from the seminal proto-punks by actually embracing the '70s Stonehenge schlock that those primordial punks held their noses at. "Manchester United," with its flamenco-staccato riffing and spaghetti western delivery, stands out as the most unique statement on a disc that contents itself with sloppy guitars atop plodding rhythms below smart-allecky singing styles. Even when they fail, it's still good for a laugh, and you're laughing with the Giraffes, not at them. ~ Brian O'Neill, Rovi

Listen to this album twice, first to be blown away and secondly to hear what you missed the first time- then go out to and see your old favourite bands and be prepared to be disappointed by what everyone else lacks.

With 2002's Helping You Help Yourself, the Giraffes found their stride, delivering the explosive, riffy, punk-edged sound that would become their hallmark.
