Album Review

In a rap world increasingly populated by monotoned players and smoother-than-smooth R&B crooners, E-40's deft delivery and playful wordplay remain a real breath of fresh air. As usual for him (as well as most rappers), Grit & Grind has a few too many tracks; still, it's definitely front-loaded with talent, from the opener, "Why They Don't F**k Wit Us" (punctuated by organ lines and a female chorus), to the second track, "The Slap," with a barrage of rhyming riffs that finds him worrying a batch of suffixes like a dog with a bone. The productions, most by Rick Rock, are fleshed-out and never reliant on the usual West Coast clichés. The metro-mentioning "Rep Yo City," with Petey Pablo, Eightball, Bun B, Lil' Jon & the Eastside Boyz, is another highlight.

1990????

iTunes..... WAKE UP!! This album was not released in 1990, it was released in 2002, possibly 2001. Good album, though. One of 40's best!

E-FEEZY DOES IT!

I've had this album for at least ten years, and its still a head banger. Every song is better then the one before. " I smoked it to tha finger nail. The finger nail? Yeah cuzzo the fingernail, man im so high right now that i can barely even spell." Lyrical Genius. From Spain to Spokane, from the golden gate to tha frozen state, you know Earf is our turf. DWAMN

Synonymous with Bay Area rap, E-40 garnered a regional following, and eventually a national one, with his flamboyant raps, while his entrepreneurial spirit, embodied by his homegrown record label, Sick Wid' It Records, did much to cultivate a flourishing rap scene to the east of San Francisco Bay, in communities such as Oakland and his native Vallejo. Along with Too Short, Spice 1, and Ant Banks, E-40 was among the first Bay Area rappers to sign to a major label, penning a deal with Jive Records...
