Editors’ Notes

The Bends preceded Radiohead's masterpiece, OK Computer, but it's a marvel in its own right. Here, Thom Yorke's vision of a world poisoned by its obsession with technology emerges, and the band finds the music to match. The guitars on "Just" sound like machines grinding to a halt, while the breakdown of "My Iron Lung" mimics the squall of a dial-up modem. The centerpiece is the breathtaking ballad "Fake Plastic Trees," a poetic meditation on the emptiness one feels when surrounded by artificiality.
