Album Review

The storm has hit — the eagerly awaited second album from Deanta, featuring the lead vocals of Mary Dillon, is here and is more impressive than ever. Mary lends her crystalline voice to standout renditions of "The Lake of Pontchartrain," "Culloden's Harvest," and the title track, "Ready for the Storm," written by Scots singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean. Inventively arranged instrumentals, performed on harp, fiddle, flute, guitar, keyboards and more, are also a hallmark Deanta. Ready for the Storm is an absolutely stellar achievement, capturing one of Ireland's youngest and highly talented traditional bands in peak performance.

Still my favorite!

The first album released by Deanta is still my favorite, although all are excellent. Mary Dillon is as always, outstanding. She has the voice of an angel and is up there with Alison Krauss when it comes to vocals. I would recommend this album to all, even if you are not a fan of Irish music. It is worth it just to hear Mary sing. Her sister Cara is also a great singer, but Mary is in a class of her own. I just wish she would record more! Buy this and you won't be disappointed. Thanks.

Listen to all of Deanta...

Absolutely amazing group of Irish trad players with angelic, pure style sparsely accompanied sean nos vocals by Mary Dillon. She is amazing, as is the musicianship of the group. Sadly disbanded. One other self-titled album is waiting to be downloaded on iTunes, I hope! It is considered out of print, but I have seen it for sale at various online sources. Pure, pure, pure!!

The singer is the sister of Cara Dillon. It's pretty good music,

Deanta (pronounced: Jaunt-a) is one of the top traditional Celtic bands in Ireland. Formed in Northern Ireland's County Antriam, the group is known for its tight, ensemble, playing and the crystalline vocals of All-Ireland champion singer Mary Dillon. According to Irish Music Magazine, "Unlike some of the other guns currently making waves on both sides of the Atlantic, Deanta have not gone down the well worn route of 'give it a dose of rocket fuel, foot to the floor, out blast The Bothy Band and...
