Album Review

The Better Life, 3 Doors Down's debut album, positions them somewhere between radio-ready post-grunge and more aggressive alternative metal. The best songs are memorable exercises in that style, and even though the songwriting is uneven, that's often to be expected from a first record; there is at least an indication of potential here.

Not a loser!!

Great guitar riffs! This is one of the albums that even after almost 6 years I can't stop listening to it. When Kryptonite comes on I cant help it but I am rocking out all the way with the full on head banging action :) I would of given it 5 stars but the recording on this album, both on CD and off ITunes seems a little dull. I have to readjust every setting on my speakers/EQ to get a clearer sound. Kind of sounds like it was recorded in Mono..? One of the best get in the car and drive up the coast and rock out albums that there are!!

LOVE IT!

I am a HUGE 3 Doors Down fan and I know every word of every song one here. They're all fantastic, but I'll break it down for you: "Kryptonite"- The standard 3 Doors Down song that everyone knows "Loser" -Slower but picks up a bit during the chorus, nice "Duck and Run"- Fantastic! Great fight (motivational whatever -_-) song. "Not Enough"- Extremely catchy "Be Like That"- Very haunting "Life of My Own"- Classic "The Better Life"- Suicidal song, good but not the best "Down Poison"- A bit slow for my taste "By My Side"- Kind of forgettable but nice "Smack"- Simply fun to sing along with "So I Need You"- Fantastic track, very sweet really

A Few Words Of Praise

Wow. This stuff is good. Not one of these songs could possibly cut it below a 5.These songs are wonderfully, wonderfully made and are the very image of absolute musical brilliance. "Duck and Run" is an especially memorable song, partly because its eccentricity. I found it remarkable and inspiring; I was honestly left in complete and total awe after hearing it (not to mention WHILE I was listening to it).

Hailing from the small town of Escatawpa, Mississippi, 3 Doors Down hit their peak in the early 2000s with a string of post-grunge singles, most notably "Kryptonite," "When I'm Gone," and the ballad "Here Without You." "Kryptonite," with its minor-key shuffle and references to Superman, was the catalyst for the band's career, generating an unprecedented buzz at a local radio station — Biloxi's WCPR — during the band's independent days.
