For Lovers of Love

With a distinctive and subtly Southern emotional flare, led by the absolutely singular milky legato of Matt Segallos, Marksmen have risen to a level of technical cohesion and emotional maturity unmatched by bands with twice their years and exposure. If the world is a place longing for love, Marksmen strike the perfect note at the perfect time, letting the listener believe that maybe our grand aspirations and hopes can overcome all of life's burdens, if just for a moment, if just until the end of this song...

Segallos's lyrics pair religious imagery with the to-the-bone-anxiety of love lost and unrequited. And as these images dance in step, Marksmen take a confident stance to overcome. The Blue battles the Grey, and the Union emerges better and freer for it.

Chris Brickman's leads are sick inventive. The most impressive thing about them is the ease and grace with which they land on the chords. A lot of their songs leave you thinking, "Why was that so good?" and only on a second or third listen do you realize that it was subtle lead that floated throughout, perfectly soaring beside Segallos’s truly one-of-kind-vocals.

Reed Murray (drums) and Glenn Espinoza (bass) round out the band like the brilliant spicing and saucing of a meal. If Segallos and Brickman are the meat and potatoes, Murray and Espinoza are the hand-picked garlic and butter. Let’s not kid ourselves; potatoes are terrible without real butter... And these guys are real butter. Aside from their irrefutable technical ability, these guys can flat out write their instruments, a skill frequently ignored by the placeholder drummers and bassists in a lot of bands out there. They are top notch young talent, perfect for the unique Marksmen sound, and great musicians in and of themselves.

Marksmen is THE next band, bar none. Their present talent is equaled only by their potential to create unequaled music in the future. And having heard rough cuts of tracks off their upcoming full length, you have no idea what you’re in for.

For Lovers of Love (and potential fans of the love child of Manchester Orchestra, Band of Horses, and Kings of Leon).

Marksmen stole my heart with 'Conformity is the Key' and continues to keep my heart hostage with its other soulful tunes. This band gives off a down-to-earth, "doing this for fun" sort of vibe. I can see them being the next big thing. But I would like to see more songs!

Amazing Stuff Here!!

Please give these independent guys from Tampa a chance. This EP is very strong. They have such a unique mix of classic rock, soul, and a small bit of alternative fusion all mixed together. "Scotch & Rocks" is so beautiful from every musical aspect, and "Don't Make a Move" starts it off very with Reed's drum's hitting on every cylinder. Towards the end you get to listen to a very soft & strong "Conformity is the Key" with Geri X. Can't wait for the LP coming out later in the year. I have a feeling we have yet to hear their best stuff. And see them live!!!!
