iTunes Review

After growing up in Central Florida (where she worked as a character at Disney World), Nitty Scott recently moved to New York and blew up on the Internet with her viral freestyle video "Monster." Several free releases followed, including The Cassette Chronicles and Doobies x Popsicles, leading up to this, her first proper album. Despite her young age (she was born in 1990), she's clearly influenced by old-school legends like Roxanne Shanté and MC Lyte, with a quick-tongued delivery and brash bravado, taking to task one-dimensional rappers more concerned with money and dance moves than actual soul and lyrical dexterity. There are a few guest features here (Kendrick Lamar, Action Bronson, and The Kid Daytona, among others), but for the most part it's all Nitty, and it's all good. From the jazz-inflected, on-the-road narrative of "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" to the harp-laced, laid-back vibe of "Flower Child" and the absurdly funked-out headnodder "Auntie Maria's Crib (Remix)," this is undoubtedly one of the year's most impressive albums. Look for homegirl to be very big very soon.

Nitty Scott, MC is the future for female rappers/MCs

Nitty Scott, MC is the truth hip hop without all the sexual explicit lyrics, female rap dissing, talks of handbags and shoes, diamonds and self absorbed talk about her body. The music industry and the people of the rap/hip hop community need someone that is going to get things done in a manner that is supporting to all females. Someone that is about moving towards some type of progress in the music and towards unity between both females and males. Nitty Scott, MC is a rare type of female and her music can be solidified just by listing to Doobies x Popsicle Sticks, The Cassetter Chronicles and now The Boombox Diaries Vol. 1 EP. I'm still optimistic when it comes to Nitty Scott having the full support of the music Industry and listeners, but wish her the best of luck with her movement that she has envision for herself and the people of the hip hop/rap world.
