The Glory Journal

The Glory Journal hallmarks Shane Hines' finetuning of his songwriting skills. While his guitar still shines, the other band members get their full glory in this album. 'Need' while not emphasized on this album, it is quintessential Shane, with heavy lyrics matched by heavy guitar-- you feel the emotional grit in that one. In 'Boy', Buddy Speir's slide guitar complements Shane's incessant vocals, melding, not dueling. 'Way Up', 'I Promise Me', 'We Can Never Be' and 'The Broken Breaking Down' -- any of these tracks could take Shane into national radio for the long haul. No wonder Shane was a top finalist in the 2008 John Lennon Songwriting Competition with 'Way Up'; because it is that good. But any of these other tunes are of the same quality and ilk. Shane, and his amazing cadre of musicians, with Thumbs on bass and Leland on drums, spark synergy in a way that gives us faith that musicians who are craftsman are still making music, and letting the rest of us listen to it.

I first heard shane hine's music from the glory journal! It is music about life. Great one to buy.

I had the pleasure of seeing Shane perform an acoustic set of these songs in Philly recently. He's not only a great performer but an awesome songwriter as well. I bought this CD and have not been able to stop listening to it since! Hope he gets the recognition he deserves as these songs need to be heard!!! Try his myspace page if you want to get a full listen to the songs...definately worth checking out!

The album received a nomination from the 2006 Independent Music Awards for Best Pop/Rock, and Hines was won three of six awards at the Texas Songwriters Cruise. His success was further bolstered when one of his songs, "My Hope Is," was featured on MTV's The Real World: Key West. While touring...
