iTunes Review

At the onset of the CD era, record companies scoured their vaults in search of big-name historic artists to properly anthologize. For musicians who'd recorded the majority of their music with a single label, the resulting sets were often exciting; fans previously had to make do with bare-bones greatest-hits collections and a hit-or-miss approach to in-print albums. Yet Chuck Berry eventually had The Great Twenty-Eight deleted (though, thankfully, it's available on iTunes), and fans were left with inferior choices until a new wave of reissues exhausted the vaults once again. However, The Chess Box remains one of the earliest—and best—Berry collections that go beyond the obvious hits without insisting upon “complete” status. Since the box’s release, there have been increased options for how one wishes to collect their Chuck Berry music. For someone seeking an in-depth look with A-sides and B-sides, The Chess Box remains a well-edited view of an early rock ’n’ roll pioneer and first-rate guitarist, singer, and songwriter.

Influenced everyone in rock and roll

He is the reason there is rock & roll as we know it and this is his ultimate collection.......All of these Chess Box sets are excellent

All hail the true King!

Chuck Berry, as the creator of R&R, is the true King. Not Elvis. Its very unfair that people consider Elvis the King. Without Mr. Berry, R&R would not exist today. This man is a true musical genius. Long live Chuck Berry.

Chuck berry: The Chess Box

This is a wonderful collection of my youthful memories, in a fairly comlete package. This man is THE BEST!!!

Of all the early breakthrough rock & roll artists, none is more important to the development of the music than Chuck Berry. He is its greatest songwriter, the main shaper of its instrumental voice, one of its greatest guitarists, and one of its greatest performers. Quite simply, without him there would be no Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, nor a myriad others. There would be no standard "Chuck Berry guitar intro," the instrument's clarion call to get the joint rockin' in any setting....
