Album Review

With Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles topping the charts, the market is ripe in 2008 for a solo artist like Brendan James. The New Hampshire native wields a sensitive voice and competent piano chops, while his songs brim with the same sort of adult contemporary hooks that orchestrate episodes of Grey's Anatomy. James maintains a relaxed pace and sticks to leisurely tales of childhood, small-town life, and botched relationships, with a handful of nature metaphors ("Early April Morning" signifies rebirth; "The Sun Will Rise" represents faith) peppering the mix. There's certainly an audience for such easygoing material, and some listeners might find James' gauzy debut to be perfect background music.

Customer Reviews

Stellar. Unbeleivable. Magic.

Whenever I listen to Brendan James, something happens. The world around me changes. The air becomes intoxicating. My very skin seems to come alive. I am moved to tears, moved to joy, moved to inner power. He is a musical godsend with powerful lyrics and melodies that reflect a strong, influential soul. Buy Brendan James. It will only improve your music collection.

it is absolutely amazing that this hasn't been released/found sooner. Finally a musician that has something to say and isn't having someone else write it for him. He's a musician, he's a lyricist, he's orignal and fearless. Brendan is introducing a new wave of refreshing taste to the seemingly lost world of commercial sounds that have contaminated so much of the air waves in recent years. thank you.

My Soul Smiles

This man’s unwavering patience and unwillingness to compromise for corporate labels proves that time has made this album that much sweeter, and he will spend his long career winning us all over one person at a time. Within the first few seconds into the album, Brendan captures our attention with a witty piece about a beautiful soul he encountered a few years ago and guides us on a heartfelt journey through gentle lullabies about letting go of love to catchy tunes about growing up an awkward eighties baby to a somber number about an soldier in Iraq. But through each unique, eloquently written track, this artist never loses his positive attitude towards the world, and he achieves his goal of hope, hope that the world is good and decent and worth believing in. In my biased opinion, this album is underpriced for what you get, so buy it for yourself and a friend. Let’s help Brendan pay his rent, so he can work on this next album.
