Trent Reznor was the perfect choice to score Oliver Stone's mind-messing movie Natural Born Killers. His soundtrack maintains the film’s jarring, cut-and-paste structure, changing scenes at will, sticking in dialogue clips, even cutting a few songs off in the middle. Between hardcore hip-hop (Dr. Dre, Tha Dogg Pound) and punk pounders (L7, Patti Smith), perfectly innocent Bob Dylan and Patsy Cline songs are used to chillingly ironic effect. In the midst of all this chaos, Reznor's aching "Something I Can Never Have" is the moment of sanity.
Why Album only?
This is all good to great music. Isn't the appeal of the iTunes store that one can pick and choose tracks without having to buy the entire album? If I wanted the entire album I would spend probably less money and buy a professionally stmped CD from a brick and mortar store. This is how iTunes will turn off buyers and become lame just like the rest of the recording/distribution system. Some will flame me for rating the album badly for a beef with iTunes. Feel free. So far I haven't found a better place to post this comment.
music to murder by
a must for fans of the film. along with taking the listener for a mind-bending audio trip that parallels the movie (dialogue and quotes), this soundtrack reminds us of the edgy and raw rock and rap that we miss from the early to mid 90s. kudos to Nine Inch Nails, Dr. Dre, Bob Dylan and even Juliette Lewis for being apart of this fine, loud and raunchy piece of work.
don't buy this for the songs
If you loved the movie, it's concievable that you might enjoy this, but do not buy this soundtrack as a way of obtaining the songs. Dialogue, noise, etc. from the movie are played prior to, during, and after many of the songs, altering (if not ruining) them as original work. It's misleading to not warn buyers of this and the error is made worse by the "Album Only" gimmick which makes it impossible for buyers to decline purchasing more of the songs after learning that many of them have been altered through the incorporation of material from the movie.
