Opeth rules! Can't wait for the new cd.Death vocals or not,the music always shines.

Amazing! Fit for a Crimson King

Opeth has to be the most versatile rock band making music today. They've gone from extremely brutal death metal, to acoustic guitar filled beauty, and now to a heavy 70's prog sound much like King Crimson, Yes, and Camel. Not only the sound, but the actual music seems to be heavily influenced by King Crimson on this piece. (Take a listen to Crimson's "Devil's Triangle" which is an interpretation of Gustav Holst's "Mars the Bringer of War") With this release, they've proven that you don't need recordings that are mastered "brickwall" style with no dynamics in order to have a heavy sound. I hope they stay on this path for awhile at least...until they decide it's time to explore a new road. The shapeshifters of prog have done it again!

It's great when going a new route still works out.

This song is not something I've heard much from Opeth over their past 9 albums. It's got a heavy feel to it while not using the typical distorted guitar sound. Plus, it still has a good punch to it without the death growls. And under all that is still a dark and eerie feel that these guys never fail to deliver. Death metal fans may not like it as much, but for guitar players and more open-minded metal fans, this song is a bulls-eye. Can't wait for the album.

Brought together in Stockholm by guitarists Peter Lindgren and Mikael Åkerfeldt in 1990, Opeth added progressive influences and acoustic instrumentation to their brand of Swedish death metal. As the group progressed, it was very common for an Opeth live set to fly in several different musical directions -- and an average song lasted no less than ten minutes. Impressed by their originality, Candlelight Records released their debut full-length in 1995, which was titled Orchid, and featured a rhythm...
