Dilla’s eclectic, off-kilter beats changed the shape of hip-hop both above and underground, before the Detroit icon’s life was tragically cut short. And while he’s best known for his productions, he recorded raps, too, showcased here on a lost vocal album he started in 2001. With tracks ranging from freaky, Prince-like experiments (“Drive Me Wild”) to cathartic, street-level soul (“F**k the Police”), The Diary presents a vision as thrilling and varied as the career of the man who made it, with production and guest spots from Madlib, Nas, Snoop Dogg, and more.

RIP
This doesn't seem like one of those usual posthumous albums where it's just a couple sub-par leftover tracks made to get a quick buck, it looks like love and time went into this. Especially since it's Mr. Nasty Nas himself putting this out. Got high hopes for this thing, RIP Jay.
Best to do it..
Always thought Dilla was the best to produce, and ridiculous with lyrical skill. Dilla is a composer, a genius with rythm and melody. He chose to manifest through the genre of hip-hop, primarily, but could have chosen any genre of music to express his spirit.

The album isn't even posthumous. It was just shelved for 14 years. Finally…. RIP
