iTunes Review

Years in deliberate exile in Valencia, Spain, fatherhood and the expected mid-life crisis led singer-songwriter Josh Rouse into ‘gestalt therapy’ where he’s learning to live more in the now. Yet, the reflective writer still needs to explore his life to make sense of the world and The Embers of Time does so without dire consequences. “Too Many Things On My Mind” could be everyone’s anthem in this age of cable TV and online insanity, while “New Young” understands the appeal of simplicity and living in the country. The countrypolitan pop of “Some Days I’m Golden All Night” creates happiness with its contagious upbeat vibe.

Always Incredible Songwriting

The craft of writing great songs that dig deep with honesty and remain catchy and appealing is a rare find these days. Josh Rouse is right up there with the best of them, and certainly is one of the best of his generation. If all the Josh Rouse albums I've bought since first hearing the Nashville album on NPR were on vinyl, I would have worn grooves all the way through the records by now. You can visit his songs time and again and they grow with you like good friends. This is one of the greatest achievements a songwriter can hope for. Josh Rouse has a body of work that is already timeless and I'm certain this album will be right up there among his best. I'm always happy to support his work!

New J'Ro!!

Phenomenal! Rouse never loses momentum!

If you are a TRUE josh rouse fan, you will not be disappointed. I love all of his albums. It's a very symmetrical album with highs and lows; but I love the melancholy vibe in this one. It is a perfect album.

He paid tribute to his birthplace on his 1998 debut, Dressed Up Like Nebraska, and explored the influence of his adopted home state, Tennessee, with 2005's Nashville. Rouse later settled in Spain and explored the country's musical traditions, although...
