Editors’ Notes

On the second album in his Family Tree trilogy, Radical Face (a.k.a. singer/songwriter Ben Cooper) explores the lives of an imaginary 19th-century family with uncommon sensitivity and insight. The fine literary quality of the album’s lyrics is enhanced by bittersweet folk-rooted melodies and acoustic-based arrangements suggesting Paul Simon crossed with Grizzly Bear. Cooper’s plaintive vocals embody the conflicted characters and tormented stories within “The Mute, “The Crooked Kind,” “The Gilded Hand,” and similar tunes. Vivid, haunting, and compassionate, The Branches taps deep wellsprings of memory with a sure artistic touch.

Customer Reviews

New Face, Same old Radical!

With the release of this album, I do not think I have been ever excited about music in my life. Yet, I am outstanded from the amazing wonder that you have arrived upon. As if hearing the powerful lyrics wasn't enough, Ben has brought us a new taste to his musical genius. Including unique sounds into this industrial story of a possible family. I am enjoying it so far, can not wait till the full release. Tothose reading you should hear other songs form Ben "Radical Face" Cooper. Try the Roots.
