Album Review

Death metal, black metal...whatever you want to call it, the Columbus, OH-based quartet Acheron certainly possess it, and they want to share it! The group's 2009 release, The Final Conflict: Last Days of God, is — as expected — one brutally heavy affair from beginning to end. They pay tribute to the godfathers of extreme metal, Slayer, on the album-opening title track (which music-wise, possesses more than a passing resemblance to the aforementioned band's title track from their 1988 album South of Heaven), and also offer quite a few other hard-hitting heavies, including the rapid-fire riff/screamfest "I Am Heathen," as well as a song whose title screams '80s metal — "Power and Might." Everything about The Final Conflict: Last Days of God is pure death metal — the gnarly cover illustration, the song titles, even the group's picture on the back cover (all dressed in black, passing time by hanging out a snow-covered cemetery).

Dead Simple

Best produced and best written Acheron album to date. This album is a time warp back to 1991. Riffs are distilled down to the basic, classic elements of death metal. No filler, no nonsense! Punishingly catchy and heavy, songs like Blood Oath and Salvation Through Hatred will have you shouting along with a morbid grin. Support true metal like Acheron.

great album

its rare that a death metal album truely floors me. but now i get to say it. this album is amazing. from the sirens in the openning track to the last note. this album is truely a good listen and i recomend it to any one who loves old death metal. HAIL ACHERON

Great stuff from the black arts vets

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

At first glance, Acheron seemed like your run-of-the-mill, early-'90s death metal band -- no different from hundreds of others ripening like so many oranges under the Florida sunshine. But a closer look quickly revealed the group's altogether more sinister mission, one that reflected the devil-worshipping ways of leader and guitarist Vincent Crowley, who, in his spare time, helmed a Satanic youth group named "the Order of the Evil Eye." Starting out in 1988, Crowley teamed up with his brother-in-darkness...
