Organic, not nit-picky

A couple of years ago I stumbled upon Moses Mayfield while opening for Switchfoot and had to ask Matthew after that show, "Didn't your mom ever tell you it's not polite to upstage the main act? That performance raised the bar and changed the standard by which all other music has been judged since. While it's sad that the Moses unit is no more, it was one of those painful heartbreaks that one must go through to accomplish growth. It seemingly afforded Matthew the luxury of independence to pour out his heart and bare his soul with brutal honesty, something few true artists can achieve to this depth. THE FIRE is evidence of struggles, heartache, optimism and faith. The songs come to you at face value, not overly done - just pure, organic talent laced with emotion that draws you in and leaves you hungry to know more. Matthew is a true artist. THE FIRE is his validation. When I listen to each song, I come away feeling as if I'd just unwrapped a very special gift.

Excellent Singer/Songwriter..

I had the privilege of stumbling across Matthew Mayfield's music in 2007 when he was the opening act for Pete Yorn (with his band Moses Mayfield). I was instantly taken in by his music and have been listening ever since. His passion for music flows through his amazing songs that seem to flow out of him so easily. An artist this talented will not remain undiscovered for long, as I believe "The Fire EP" will begin Matthew's rise to the top.

Bouncing Back Stronger Than Ever

As unfortunate as it was that Moses Mayfield is no more (and their album has been taken off iTunes), I really think it gave Matthew a fantastic opportunity for his solo songs. This collection shines through in ways that you can feel in your heart and relate to. The effect of his rough, soothing voice and the perfect alignment of his acoustic guitar is so powerful throughout. Highlights: Seasons In Our Dreams As Long As You're Not Leaving Razorblade The Devil Within Not so happy with the remix of Element though. Matthew has pretty much taken this song through all of his previous projects, each time giving it a new feel. I personally prefer the version on The Inside the best, but you just can't NOT like Element no matter how it's presented. Overall, lovely album. I sure hope he can get a nice record deal and get back to touring soon.
