Good to see....

FZ back on iTunes, albeit only five songs. Once upon a time, iTunes offered about 50 of the master's albums... but I guess the 'estate' was not happy with the financial arrangement or something? They pulled them. Sad. I say "Bring back Frank to iTunes, Zappa family". Give fans a legal alternative to get his music on demand... People will pay to download. But -- asking top dollar prices on the zappa site for 20 year old music and making fans wait forever to get it... not to mention the passé practice of paying for snail-mail shipping of cardboard and plastic... it is so... archaic and inconvenient. Sadly, you are encouraging pirating. Great googalie-moogalie, zappas -- smallish royalties are better than the zero royalties you get from 'peer-to-peer pirates', right? The future is now, and old school record sales are dying. Swiftly. Get with the program. Downloads on demand (aka iTunes) are destined to kill peer-to-peer pirating.

Frank Zappa Birthday Bundle

"Rhythmatist" is sophisticated, musically sound and creative. It's interesting, clever and even a bit humorous. Diva Zappa, if that's who sings lead on "Girlie Woman" and "When the Ball Drops," can't sing. Except for the Zappa name, I can't understand why they even wasted studio time on that weak, out of tune, and phony-sounding voice. Is she like 3 years old? Even then, it might be alright to use her songs at home for those who know and love her, but it shouldn't have been dispersed to the world. Give me more of those great instrumentals and creative arrangements any day. Keep the Diva at home.

Freak Out!

The wrong kind. Imagine my dismay when I went to iTunes to update my Zappa library and the only thing there was . . . this. Huh? I don't get it. Although I'm a die-hard Zappa fanatic, he's an acquired taste for most people. Why is Dweezil touring around the globe, doing such an amazing job of presenting his father's music, and it's not available in the world's most popular format? I don't even know how to review this. Zappa's music is a national treasure and ought to be administered by the Library of Congress. Maybe THEY'LL put it on iTunes.

Composer, guitarist, singer, and bandleader Frank Zappa was a singular musical figure during a performing and recording career that lasted from the 1960s to the '90s. His disparate influences included doo wop music and avant-garde classical music; although he led groups that could be called rock & roll bands for much of his career, he used them to create a hybrid style that bordered on jazz and complicated, modern serious music, sometimes inducing orchestras to play along. As if his music were...
