Album Review

On Old School Junkies: The Album, Van Helden adopts the aesthetic of old-school hip-hop and funk, but he adds a distinctly post-acid house flavor to the recipe, creating a thick, funky amalgam of contemporary and classic dance styles. Throughout the album, Van Helden keeps the groove going, making Old School Junkies an infectious slice of club music.

Meet the Ninja in this House Game

While nobody can light a candle next to the likes of the Godfather of House, Frankie Knuckles, Armand VanHelden definitely holds the throne of God son. With the sultry angry and sexy Work Me Goddamit, to the call and musical response of Hey Baby, Van Helden is the beat master -- spinning soul, attitude and a brilliant feel for rhythm and pace. He is the Funk Phenomena. I hope he never loses the creative edge so evident in his mixes. You can't sit still. You just can't.

Reminds me of dancin' away in the old warehouses' of downtown LA. Great tracks with great breaks!

Afterwards, he became one of the top names in dance music altogether. As one in the steady progression of top in-house producers for Strictly Rhythm during the early '90s, Van Helden joined such names as Todd...
