iTunes Review

3rd Bass's initial novelty was their pale skin color, but he Cactus Album showed that the only crutch Serch and Prime Minister Pete Nice relied on was the one propping up Nice's bum leg. Def Jam's choice to add 3rd Bass to its roster resulted in a late '80s burner, much of it due to pre-sample clearance wanderlust. Gary Wright's "Love Is Alive," for example, is wonderfully layered into "Wordz of Wisdom." The intro to Aretha Franklin's "Think" propels its first hit "The Gas Face." The Emotions' "Best of My Love" gets the hip-hop flip on the summertime money shot "Brooklyn-Queens." The duo shows an enviable chemistry and mastery of metaphor. This version also contains one of the funniest outtakes: "Flippin' Off the Wall Like Lucy Ball."

Oh, the memories!!

I CLEARLY remember buying this album in the PX at Ft. Bliss in early 1990. Many a night "pre-flighting" to this album before we hit Juarez all-night parties! Oh, to be 20 again. I'm not a follower of rap now, but this stuff really blew us away at the time. Good times, good music...A must buy if you were around then.

REAL DOPE

just wanna throw out a fun fact the song "the gas face" is featuring ZEV LOVE X aka MF DOOM this was before the mask days

Excellent!!!!!!

3rd Bass still rocks!!! One of the best Hip Hop albums ever made!

Biography

Formed: 1987 in Queens, NY

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '80s, '90s

3rd Bass was one of a still-small number of white hip-hop artists to achieve wide acceptance in the larger community. Along with the Beastie Boys, 3rd Bass proved that white hip-hop wasn't necessarily going to become a watered-down, commercially exploitative rip-off of the genuine article, as so many white interpretations of black musical forms had been in the past. Instead, they were possessed of a well-developed lyrical technique and were respectfully well-versed in hip-hop culture and tradition....
