voice as instrument...and beautiful

what starts out as a monologue quickly materializes into a vocal wonderland of ambient sounds and perfectly orchestrated horns. comprised pretty much of interviews on the nature of life and happiness, this recording listens as sweetly as the vignettes in "when harry met sally". a completely innocent and wonderful celebration of the fundamental vibrations that move through us all and make us...happy. lovers of godspeed you black emperor will appreciate the sheer tonal immensity of this album!

It makes you happy, isn't that good enough?

When I first downloaded this album, I did it entirely out of whim (which I normally don't do) because of how interesting the 30 sec. listens were. I was quickly drawn into the the simplicity (or maybe the mistaken simplicity) of the music. Each song has a story of someone, an average person, with a different lifestyle, of different age groups. One sounds like a toddler while another is a deaf woman's story of the first time she heard music, and one a person who was raised with 14 siblings. Charles takes some of the most average people you would meet in a city, and makes this gorgeous unwinding, yet fascinating music. Before you know it you stop what you are doing and you just start listening, with curiosity at its highest. You are swept away by some of the pure beauty of the songs, and you feel happy. When I said this was simple above, I mean to imply that the idea of this is so simple, and yet so beautiful. I would recommend this album to anyone who needs to unwind, or just open their mind to both a new idea, and happiness.
