iTunes Review

A fast-rising Seattle emcee, Macklemore has been putting out independent projects since 2000, when he debuted with the EP Open Your Eyes. Since then, he's been steadily releasing new material, building up an impressive rep for intelligent and heartfelt lyricism set to unique yet undeniably catchy production. He's been working with producer Ryan Lewis since 2008, and together they bring out the best of each other, as evidenced on joints like VS, The Unplanned Mixtape, and VS Redux. On The Heist, they join forces for 15 tracks loaded with ear-tickling, synth-driven beats and personal, hyper-annunciated flows. After his humble beginnings as a local indie favorite, this is the album that should launch him toward international mainstream stardom. It features the thought-provoking gay-rights single "Same Love" plus an irresistibly funky ode to secondhand shopping, "Thrift Store."

Customer Reviews

Not the average rapper.

Macklemore is one of the very few rappers out there that doesn't discriminate women or brag about the money he's making. When I listen to his music I always smile. Plus, Ryan Lewis comes up with the TIGHTEST beats!
