iTunes Review

A longtime producer and underground fixture hailing from Columbus, Ohio, J. Rawls has been putting out strong music since the late 1990s, as a beatmaker for hire, on the solo tip, and with his groups Lone Catalysts (with J Sands) and 3582 (with Fat Jon). Over the years he's cooked up tracks for everyone from Black Star to Dudley Perkins, and on The Hip-Hop Affect, he enlists a supercrew of guest MCs to drop knowledge over his sublimely funky, seriously jazzy tracks. D.I.T.C.'s Diamond D teams up with Oh No and Kev Brown on "Best Producer On the Mic." "Are You Listening?" brings together the vastly different styles of of Bad Azz, EDO G, and Copywrite. Hieroglyphics homie Casual pops up on "Find A New," while golden-era icons Sadat X and Wise Intelligent join forces for "Face It."
