The Heart of a Rock Legend

Since the birth of the new millennium, more and more artists continue to show appreciation for classic songs written by "Rock Legends" such as Rick Nelson. Stephen Collins, however, does more than just show appreciation. In his new album, "The Hits of Rick Nelson", Stephen recaptures the spirit that once was with warm guitar tones and soothing voice. While most artists remake music with their own flavor, Stephen stays true to the original arrangements, carefully defining every note that Rick Nelson intended. Such songs as "Poor Little" and "Believe What You Say" have specifically touched me not only as music lover, but also as a 25 year-old. Stephen has a "story-teller" voice on slower love ballads, like "Lonesome Town", and with his rich and warm tone, he gives the listener a way to engage the lyrics, a task many artists are unable to accomplish today. With "The Hits of Rick Nelson”, you'll understand why these songs have withstood the test of time and lastly you will experience Stephen’s heart, the heart of a rock legend.

Stick with this guy

In my review of Stephen Collins’ self-titled CD I said the production was horrid. It is evident that production means the world. I never said he wasn’t a great singer and this only solidifies my beliefs that production companies can take an artist from great to trash at the flip of a switch-most likely the wrong switch. This CD is much better than expected as I bought and listened to Collins’ own CD first. Perhaps the bands are also different, but the main thing to note is his self-titled CD has him singing these long drawn out notes where you just want to scream at him to hurry it up as they’re overly monotone and drab. This CD shows his true strength. Perhaps the different production company and band, but either way, this CD is a winner over his self-titled CD. It’s a shame too because he could go far so long as he drops “The Gold Label” and continues on with this company which by name seems different---I could be wrong.

i luv it
