Album Review

As on their first LP, We Five try too hard to establish their versatility on this record, with fey renderings of standards like "Somewhere" and "Our Day Will Come" mixing uncomfortably with some fairly sturdy (if pop-oriented) folk-rock. On the other hand, tracks like "Let's Get Together" (a Top 40 hit), "What Do I Do Now," and "You Let a Love Burn Out" are rather close to the sound of the Jefferson Airplane's first album. The version of "High Flying Bird" (also done by the Airplane in their early days) is a good one, and features singer Beverly Bivens' best, gutsiest vocal. A Collectors' Choice Music CD reissue combines this and the 1965 debut You Were on My Mind onto one disc.
