Editors’ Notes

Faith and ferocity are delivered in equal measure on Immortal. Connoisseurs of Christian hardcore will connect with the breakdowns, bass drops, and blistering guitar volleys that anchor the Iowa-based quintet’s sound. There’s also strong melodic content and an effective balance of harsh and clean vocals (courtesy of frontman Matty Montgomery). The album is a warrior’s testimony, with all the pain, fear, and valor that description implies. “I can feel the courage rising,” Montgomery roars in “Freedom,” the battle cry that sets the album's overall tone. Themes of praise and devotion dominate the tracks. “Stand Defiant” (a hard-slamming anthem that spits in the eye of the enemy) and “My Confession” (a rhythmically shifting tune culminating in a fiery spoken-word sermon) stand out for their piercing attacks and radical messages. P.O.D.’s Sonny Sandoval (“The Only Name”), August Burns Red’s Jake Luhrs (“Set Apart”), and Sleeping Giant’s Tommy Green (“Under God”) lend their voices to help make Immortal an arresting work of aggressive reverence.

Praise God!

Wow, the first track starts off strong, giving all the glory, praise, and honor to Christ! Praise God that these guys are sold out for Him, keep it up brothers!

Just pooped my pants!!!!!

Loved every note. I will never be the same. I now realize the One Direction are 2nd best band ever. For Today is the most influential band ever.

Amazing! But...

Fist of all let me say that I am a huge fan o For Today and I absolutely love this album, it's completely worth buying. Which is all the more of a reason for me to give it a whole-hearted honest review.

This, being For today's fourth studio release, is a strong all around For Today album. This album doesn't really bring much of anything new to the table, but rather takes Breaker's breathtaking and passionate sound and the heaviness and crazy technical sound of portraits and Ekklesia and wraps it up into one neat package, Immortal. But there is one flaw; Immortal seems less unique than the other three albums. In the past, For Today was always trying something new, which really shows in Breaker, but it seems to lose that in this album. It starts to blend together a bit. So, that's why I give the music a 3/5

On the other hand, I dont have much to say about the lyrics. The lyrics in this album are very similar to that of Breaker, strong and passionate Christian lyrics, and I, being a devout Christian, am in strong support of that. They give you a sense of power and pride in being a Christian, and the fact that they can convey that feeling through their music so well is pretty astonishing to me. I give them a 5/5

All in all, 4 out of 5 stars

A Christian metalcore band from Sioux City, Iowa, For Today released their first album, Ekklesia, in 2008. With an album to promote in 2008, the band had a long year of touring and gigs planned. After...
