iTunes Editors’ Notes

Take note: the shortest song on this five-track LP from the Arkansas doom-rock upstarts is more than eight minutes long. But who cares that brevity isn’t Pallbearer's strong suit? The punishing lethargy and smear of sludgy, distorted guitars give tunes like “The Legend” and “Foreigner” a furious, protracted intensity. An impressively mature debut, Sorrow and Extinction sounds a bit like playing a Sabbath record at 15 RPM. Or in a word: awesome.

Pallbearer

Good God. Get this album. I havent heard anything like this in a long time, filthy raw. Nasty. I love it. Bought the album after buying one track. I havent bought an album in years....

Dark,Heavy,Creative,yet a work of beauty!

Never much a fan of the Doom stuff,so you really have to impress me to get me into that slow methodic groove. These guys have but out a album that has been well thought out, with layers within layers on sonic creativity. The vocals are emotional and top notch, the music is nothing short of brilliant.A perfect album for those dark winter nights hiding under a warm blanket and embracing the sheer beauty of a musical accomplishment.

I love this band.

This is some of the best doom I have heard for a while. The band has an uncanny sense of dark melody. It makes for an interesting listen and still maintains a very heavy sound throughout. This is a great album if you like the tempo slow and the grooves heavy as a mack truck. This band still manages to be beautiful with all the distorted tones and that's a feat in itself. Good album throughout so just buy it already...

Formed in 2008, Little Rock, Arkansas quartet Pallbearer unleashed their penchant for heaviness on unsuspecting ears with their monstrously thick take on classic doom metal. With a sound rooted in the slow, riff-centric traditions laid down by Black Sabbath, the band takes a fairly straightforward approach to doom, forming layers of sludgy guitars into an impossibly thick wall of oppressive bleakness that envelops the listener. With a lineup consisting of Brett Campbell (guitars/vocals), Devin Holt...
