Album Review

The debut album from Chicago's White Tie Affair, Walk This Way showcases the band's knack for high-energy emo-influenced dance-rock. Just when you think White Tie Affair is a flirty, '80s-centric new wave/R&B ensemble they flip the script and layer on slabs of heavy guitar and driving, yearning beats. Surely, they will draw quick and easy comparisons to Justin Timberlake and Fall Out Boy for their ability to mix sexy, club-ready workouts with more rawk-oriented, emo-power ballads. In that same sense, with frontman Chris Wallace's high-pitched, sometimes falsetto vocals — not to mention his choppy hair and androgynous snarl giving him the appearance of a more scrubbed-up Urban Outfitters version of Billy Idol — they narrowly avoid a direct comparison to Maroon 5. Helping White Tie Affair out of this pigeonhole is a playful batch of catchy tunes that are expertly crafted with just the right amount of retro-synth, ersatz glam guitar, and pulsating dance grooves to make the band ready-made poster boys for the college club scene.

Always loved 'em

This is my favorite band! I found them this last summer/fall '07 on Myspace and they've been my favorite ever since...I was lucky enough to pre-order this album and it came a day early..autographed and I saw them in concert earlier this month w/Secondhand Serenade and Making April...honestly the show they put on was 100x better than Making April & Secondhand Serenade...i love those bands as well but they've got nothing on these guys...Chris' vocals are stunning & Sean has some mad guitar skills...of course TIm & Ryan are amazing too...luckily I get to see them in concert again this Saturday...They deserve the best and if you haven't gone to one of their concerts it will change your life so u definitely need to go! Love them! Help support them!!!

Guilty Pleasure...

I'm a sucker for catchy music. Mostly, I enjoy a little bit of anything musically, but preferrably, pop-punk/hardcore punk. So, you can see what makes it so surprising that a band like The White Tie Affair would appeal to me. Their debut full length, Walk This Way, is, what can be described as this generations pop music. It has elements of pop punk, yes, but in reality, this is almost reminiscent of The Backstreet Boys. The only difference is that this band actually has talent. Production is very very clean on this album. I don't know how they sound live, because I've never seen them or anything, but from the other reviews on here, apparantly they are. That's impressive. The lead singer's voice really songs on songs like "Allow Me to Introduce Myself..." and "Scene Change" as well as basically the whole album. There are a TON of vocal layers, that's what causes this album to sound so boy-bandish. But in the end this album is killer. Musically this album is very funky very rocking at the same time. It really reminds me of Maroon 5 mixed with like The Higher. The singer sounds almost just like the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' singer, but he has way more range and a huge range. In the end, I think this is an album for anyone. It's got the rock elements and the VERY poppy elements that will attract the mainstream music fans, as well as even pop-punk/melodic hardcore fans such as myself. I think this album is an album that many people will be afraid to admit they love, but it's got songs that will make you dance and will be stuck in your head for days. The White Tie Affair has arrived, and they are out to take over the world.

Melt your hearts
