Album Review

Avant switches labels once more, this time from Capitol to Verve Forecast, for his sixth album. Apart from three eyebrow raisers — namely "Body Police," "That Dude," and "Had Enough" — The Letter offers another ballad-heavy round of smooth, sophisticated, and occasionally raunchy R&B songs — most of which are collaborations with the Pentagon — for the thirty and up crowd. It's not one of the singer's best albums, but those who can wade through the miscues will have an EP's worth of solid Avant.

So over looked..and underrated!!!

This man knows what he is doing and continues to make AWSOME music.. people support his music. I am so tired of seeing these guys over looked!!! "The Letter" is a Classic!!!

Thank god! This is my dude ever since separated!

I grew up listening to Avant. He is definitely on the same level if not better then half the R&B singers out there today. This was much needed, I just wish the marketing was better, he should be a lot more recognized then he is now! Point blank.. Keep grinding and putting out that fire. Thanks!

Stellar in Every Regard!!!!!

Finally, this is the album Avant fans have been waiting for!
After the "just okay release of the self titled Avant album", i was pleasantly surprised. From the opening track to the last, Avant aims to please and he definitely does. Can't miss tracks include the absolutely stellar "Wake Up" , that track alone is worth the price of admission for the rest of the album. Kiss Goodbye, Walking on Water, That Dude, and Where Did We Go? will also surely be getting heavy repeat plays. Tracks like Your Body is the Business and Nightlife are forgettable at best and serve only as filler for an other wise perfect album.
R&B lovers are in for a huge treat with this album. Avant's vocals have never sounded better and top notch production means this album can be enjoyed from beginning to end. This album is definitely on par with other highlights such as Ectasy and Director and in most regards even passses them, album length being the only negative i can think of. 5 stars Avant. Now if we can get some good singles, better promotion with a solid tour he can finally start getting the shine he deserves. There arent as many consistent artists as Avant, and The Letter shows us why!

Hailed as the "new voice of ghetto soul" and the first act signed to basketball great Magic Johnson's Magic Johnson Music, Cleveland native Avant (born Myron Avant) debuted in 1998 with the song "Separated," released on Payton Entertainment -- the label operated by his manager, Eric Payton. The single received airplay on top-rated Chicago radio station WGCI prior to being selected for inclusion on the 1999 MCA compilation Summer Heat. This set the stage for the May 2000 release of Avant's debut album,...
