iTunes Review

Running on Empty is the album that transformed Jackson Browne from a critically lauded singer/songwriter to a top-tier, stadium-packing rock star. Its opening title track is a quintessential ’70s anthem, one that nails the peculiar mix of backstage decadence and existential fatigue that pervaded the post-Woodstock rock scene. Between that and the sweetly sad horns that close out “Stay,” Browne drifts wearily through a thick haze of hard drugs (“Cocaine”), lonely groupies (“Rosie”), and tattered relationships (“Love Needs a Heart”).

The Load Out and Stay combination

The version of "The Load Out" being sold on I tunes is 5:35 in length, too bad the actual song is around 8 minutes long! The song "Stay" is basically the end of the load out and should be sold as one. When was the last time anyone heard one with out the other from this album? NEVER!

The Load Out

The song "The Load Out" downloads fine, but it plays as two separate songs when in shuffle mode.

Browne's Best

This is by far his best. Other than Running On Empty the stand out songs are You Love the Thunder, The Load Out, and Rosie!

While the majority of his classic '70s work was unflinchingly personal, it nevertheless provided a touchstone for a generation of maturing baby boomers coming to terms with adulthood. Not only did his introspective, literate lyrics strike a nerve,...
