iTunes Review

Kylie Minogue’s Greatest Hits offers a well-chosen overview of her first six years as a recording artist. Drawn from her albums Kylie, Enjoy Yourself, Rhythm of Love, and Let’s Get to It, these 22 songs reflect Kylie’s initial wave of success as a dance-pop diva. All but one of the tracks are produced by Stock-Aitken-Waterman, the hitmaking trio known for their glossy neo-disco sound. From the joyful sugar rush of “I Should Be So Lucky” and “Better the Devil You Know” to the honeyed balladry of “Especially for You” (a duet with Jason Donovan) and “Tears on My Pillow,” Minogue’s early releases have a fresh-faced quality that humanizes their sleekly tailored grooves. Tracks like “Got to Be Certain” and “Step Back in Time” turn up the funk quotient, while “Give Me Just a Little More Time” displays a stylistic maturation that would continue on future releases. Greatest Hits benefits from hot remixes of tracks like “Shocked” and “Finer Feelings,” as well as three strong new recordings, among them the propulsive “What Kind of Fool? (Heard All That Before)” and a sweat-raising remake of Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration.”

Very Happy to have her greatest hits but...

These are only old hits, where all the new hits?? Where is the "Ultimate Kylie" compilation??? That's a good one! iTunes, you're missing a good shot!!!

"WOW!" isn't she Gorgeous in that album artwork???

Besides the fact this is a great compilation of her very early work, it also contains a track I have never heard of: "Where in the World?". I'm actually shocked because up until now I have already imported all of Kylie's albums and popular singles. And to my surprise it was not even mentioned on Wikipedia! Well at least it's here now and I'm glad to make it another addition to my Kylie collection. It's nice to see the "Shocked (DNA 7" Mix)" track on this album. The original track has such a long intro compared this one so that is defiantly and must have!

Kylie Minogue - Her AMAZING Early PWL Years

Maybe it's because of her impending US tour in the fall (yippee!), but ITunes FINALLY is selling her definitive Greatest Hits from her early PWL years. These aren't the songs you are familiar with on Fever or X. This is funky, fun, silly, whacky, teenaged Kylie. These songs are utter classics and will stay in your head for days. The collection spans from 1987 to 1992 when she broke from her label-at-the-time, PWL. Here we have Cute Kylie, Dance Kylie, Sexy Kylie, and the BIR Mix of Finer Feelings hints at the Indie Kylie to come in the late 90s. Stellar collection. If you love Kylie's 2000s pop and dance, and you also love good cheesy 80s music, don't hesitate to hit Buy Album!

On the one hand, in the pop music arena, worldbeaters such as Kylie Minogue are few and far between. Singers and performers of her stature and popularity rarely maintain their power for as long as she has. Her streaks of number one singles in both Australia and the U.K. are nearly insurmountable. And yet, on the other hand, her inability to really crack open the American pop market over the course of her career is a story that is heard all too often from groups hailing from nations as pop powerful...
