Album Review

Not sure why this New York trio took three years to follow-up their debut Flight of Myself EP, but they've changed since. With three exceptions, gone are the two-minute "that's all?" excursions of Flight's "get in, get out" 11-minute, six-song bow. Perhaps, though, the slow-boiling closer "Flight of Myself" was a harbinger: With Steve Albini at the Chicago recording controls, the threesome explore somnambulant yet fitful siestas, before gradually, grumpily awakening Renn Cheadle's guitar into a roused-dog awareness. Like a riptide, you're in it before you know it. A similar tug of war exists within singer Molly Donahue, from siren-like pacifier to mildly irritated growl, sometimes pitching concerns of pitch control. Slowcore hasn't been such a slow burn since the days of Codeine, Hugo Largo, and Galaxie 500.

Do yourself a favor!

This album is so amazing! Molly has a voice that is soft yet powerful, she will melt your heart with the song 'Halo'...and the song 'groupie' is so infectious you will find yourself singing it at the top of your lungs right along with her! Renn adds his own style on guitar that is haunting and beautiful, unlike the usual thing you hear. The drummer will blow your mind as well. Do yourself a favor and buy this full album, I guarantee it will be in heavy rotation!

The shape of things to come

The Love Story are one of the best bands coming out of New York. They are the band you haven't heard yet, and also the band you won't stop talking about once you do.

Lovin' Love Story

My band Second Story Man had the pleasure of sharing the stage with these guys in Louisville, Ky. The song 'Bide' is still in regular rotation on my stereo. Definitely worth the auditory experience.
