Jetset fans who picked up Castle’s double-disc, 50-track Jetsetmania retrospective in 2000 will find Cherry Red’s double-disc, fifty track Swings & Roundabouts: Very Best of Jetset retrospective more than a little bit familiar. Great Britain’s answer to the Monkees may not have had an original bone in their paisley, pre-Austin Powers bodies, but their music was undeniably infectious. There are a few more “new to CD” tracks on this latest compilation than there were on its first incarnation, the tunes have been remastered for the increasingly deaf MP3 generation, there’s exclusive artwork by founding member Paul Bevoir, and a fine essay charting the band’s career. What’s not to love?

The Jet Set were one of the oddest footnotes in British pop music history. Loosely associated with the mod-revival of the late-70s, they took the revival one step further.
