Editors’ Notes

Bobby Bare had already spent a decade racking up country hits by the time he released this career-changing 1973 double album. It was the first of his famed full-album collaborations with songwriter Shel Silverstein; the first full flowering of the partnership proved to be a career peak for Bare. Letting all the natural charisma in his warm, soulful voice flow, Bare's in storyteller mode here, delivering Silverstein's peerlessly crafted, humor-filled tales of characters both mythical (Paul Bunyan on "Paul," the voodoo queen "Marie Laveaux") and close to home ("Sure Hit Songwriter's Pen," "Rosalie's Good Eats Café").

Lullabys,Legends and Lies

Bobby Bare has always been a favorite. He is truly "The Winner".

This is a great one to get!!

I grew up a child of the 70's listening to my dad's LP of the first 14 songs (originally on the album). I was so happy to see it is on iTunes, and with the bonus songs 15-30. Especially love "Daddy What If, The Winner, Rest Awhile, and Rosalie's Good Eats Cafe". Oh heck, I just love them all. Good story songs. Hooray for Bobby Bare!

Bobby Bare Sings Lullabys, Legends and Lies (and more)

I have looked for some of the music on this Bobby Bare CD for a long time. When my children were small, we sang many of the songs on the album, we loved Bobby Bare! I received my Ipod for my 66th birthday in February, so what a surprise when I found this album in the ITunes store! This is an album filled with happy and fun songs, it is great for all ages. Listening to it is guaranteed to brighten your day.

Bobby Bare's story is nearly as fascinating as his music. Bare's mother died when he was five. His father couldn't earn enough money to feed his children, forcing the family to split up. Bare was working on a farm by the time he was 15 years old, later working in factories and selling ice cream to support himself. Building his first guitar, he began playing music in his late teens, performing with a local Ohio band in Springfield. In the late '50s, he moved out to Los Angeles. Bare's first appearance...
