Album Review

As the title makes plain, Where the Other Wild Things Are rounds up the performances from the 2009 Where the Wild Things Are DVD that didn’t make the accompanying CD of the same name — a whopping 12 tracks, all also recorded with a stellar lineup of Bryan Beller, Jeremy Colson, Dave Weiner, Ann Marie Calhoun, and Alex DePue at the State Theatre in Minneapolis. It is quite shamelessly more of the same, but that’s not a bad thing since this is all of a very high quality, capturing Vai at something of a dense, thoughtful peak. Sure, it might have been nice to have this all initially come out as a double-disc set, but failing that, it’s good to have all this material available on CD.

strings and things

sheer delight when i saw vai and this line up, including 2 violinists live the very night after this was recorded. i was curious and maybe somewhat doubtful how it would work.. but here is proof. vai fans (of 25 years like me) or just lovers of lush compositions performed by incredible musicians have lots to wrap their ears around! BUY IT, instead of the poser rock out there in abundance.. this is the real deal.

thank you mr. steve vai

"for the love of god" i have been "whispering a prayer" for the rest of the wild things songs to be on itunes and my prayers have been "answers" thank you itunes and thank you mr. steve vai aka god of the guitar for the great music.

One of the best concerts EVER.......period!

I was at this show in Minneapolis. It. was. INCREDIBLE! Steve knows to surround himself with great musicians, and that what they all are. The arrangements (especially "For the Love of God") are simply wonderful. My only knock is that I wish they would have included ALL the songs that they performed that night, then I would have given it 5 stars.

Six-string wizard Steve Vai, along with his onetime teacher Joe Satriani, set the standard for rock guitar virtuosity in the '80s. Born on June 6, 1960, and raised in Carle Place, New York, Vai became interested in the guitar via such legendary artists as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and Alice Cooper as a teenager and, upon starting high school, took lessons with an older player from the school, Joe Satriani. Playing in several local bands, Vai quickly picked up on the instrument, and by the age of...
