Editors’ Notes

Over the years The Pretenders have become the live and recording unit for Chrissie Hynde; band mates come and go, but Chrissie soldiers on. These live recordings from her 2009 tour find Chrissie back in fighting form. After a few years where it sounded as if she might be most comfortable with the power ballad-like dynamics of “I’ll Stand By You” (that appears here in fine form), Hynde is back charging full force through a catalog that includes such snarling classics as “Talk of the Town,” “Brass In Pocket,” “Precious,” “Middle of the Road” and new anthems such as “Boots of Spanish Plastic” and “Don’t Cut Your Hair.” Her tough-biker-chick image shines through “Tattooed Love Boys” and the manic slam of “The Wait.” Her guitar playing slashes through the tight punch of “Kid” and the shiny jangle of the Kinks’ “Stop Your Sobbing.” “Cuban Slide” furthers the band’s prowess with a Bo Diddley thud, while “Back on the Chain Gang” still aches with the memory of the band members she’s lost along the way.

Pretenders live in london

Seriously,Chrissie Hynde is one of the most original, gifted artists of rock/blues/punk/ska to ever grace this planet. Can any woman sing and deliver a concert like this one, never mind what the age? This is a tremendous collection of songs, and the fact her band can bring it to life live shows their virtuosity.

Agree Yes Siree (**,)

Chrissie & her new band ROCK! we saw this tour in Seattle - She Tore the Roof Off The Paramount Theatre! I'm trying to understand why I had to dig for this iTune lnk to this HOT early 2010 release...? it seems burried. & only has one review??? What's Up With That? I guess most iTune listners prefer the cussing & swearing hip hop rapster crapster BS! Funny - if I swore here (oops - I might have... I don't know... let's see what happens... oooo) - I'd be nixed. But the BS the kids are releasing is full of C_ _ _P! & totally unncecssary. Let the God Times Roll & let's get back to the basics. Good Lyrics, catchy rhythms & great musicianship. YOU ROCK CHRISSIE! Thuis live release is incredible! I can hardly wait to see you again! Keep playing That Rock n Roll!!!

Saw em

in the early 80's, They still have it today. The 80's rock.

Over the years, the Pretenders became a vehicle for guitarist/vocalist Chrissie Hynde's songwriting, yet it was a full-fledged band when it was formed in the late '70s. With their initial records, the group crossed the bridge between punk/new wave and Top 40 pop more than any other band, recording a series of hard, spiky singles that were also melodic and immediately accessible. Hynde was an invigorating, sexy singer who bent the traditional male roles of rock & roll to her own liking, while...
