Album Review

The Best of Ray Lynch collects ten of the artist's best-loved tracks, plus two brand-new songs and a remix of his underground hit "Celestial Soda Pop." It's the perfect introduction to Lynch's brand of lush, ambient electronic music.

One of the best around

I certainly wasn't disappointed when I bought this album. Not your typical "Best of" album--it has three new pieces of music as well as the cream of the crop from Ray's wonderful catalog of music. "The Music of What Happens" is new and features an electric violin that is so extraordinary you really need to hear it to believe it--one of my new favorites.

mellow driving music

This is a great album to listen to while driving on a road trip. This album definitly has a sort of 80's new age feel to it on a few tracks. Some of the songs are composed just as classical masterpeices were 150 years ago. On these particular songs there isn't as much of an synthetic sound to them as some of the others. All around I am pleased that I bought this one.

Truly wonderful

Ray Lynch's music still surprises me, sounding incredibly fresh, alive, and immediate. Basically, this music is FUN! And it doesn't get tired. In Lynch's hands the electronic synth voices become something like classical instrument. They soar, grieve, and plain old goof around. What's so unique is the presence of three things simultaneously: (1) deep moving emotion, across a wide range (2) funny, irreverent playfulness and (3) elegant formal mathematical complexity.

Though he's one of the most influential artists in "new age pop" and adult alternative circles, Lynch has extensive formal music training. Inspired by Andres Segovia's classical guitar recordings, Lynch studied the instrument in Barcelona, Spain, in the early '60s. He later attended the University of Texas as a composition student. Toward the end of the decade, Lynch moved to New York and became a fixture in the city's "early music" scene as a lutenist with Renaissance Quartette. A period of personal...
