Refreshing and Alive

This Vox release delves back to a musical time almost forgotten. The majority of the players who assumed the name of the bands and singers are all of Eastman stock. The playing is fluid and free and the singing spot on. There are Polkas, Waltzs, oporetic scenes and small orchestral pieces. This is a must for anyone interested in the musical history of America or of homespun folk music. My only complaint is that Vox was the Naxos of it's time. Vox was a budget label that offered top drawer performances of old and new classics that had fallen out of circulation or would have been too much of a risk for most major labels. iTunes is asking three times what I had paid in college but if this is the only way to hear this refreshingly honest and sincere music by all means get it now! -Bz
