12 Songs, 50 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

The title tune is a raging outlaw anthem full of stadium-sized hard-rock riffs, but it's followed by the sparsely produced, intensely inward-looking ballad "A Man Who Was Gonna Die Young." Church manages to maintain the dynamic tension between these two poles throughout the album; "A Cold One" and "That's Damn Rock & Roll" explode with bluesy, roughneck rock licks, while "Talladega" and "Like a Wrecking Ball" stick to an impressively soulful simmer. The most strikingly ambitious track falls outside of this template, though; the eight-minute "Princess of Darkness/Devil, Devil" is an ode to surviving Nashville that starts with a poetic spoken-word piece and segues into a grinding blues-rock stomper. Now, that's how an outlaw rolls.

I love the posers….

What is it with those of you rating this song bad because in your opinion, it is "not country”? Who the heck cares! Last time I checked, people buy songs because they either like them or do not like them. Being impartial, and yes, I like country but like rock also, this is a pretty good recording. It jams and before I dismiss Eric’s entire new album, I will actually wait to hear it.

His Best Yet

The Outsiders is his best yet! This is truly the "Outlaw" sound he started with!

A Lot Of Boot Left To Fill!!!

I eerily recall a lyric where Eric Church bashed the pretty boy pop looking country stars of today, well this track here sounds an awful lot like the same agenda of the very same country music he was bashing. As a huge Eric Church fan I'd be lying if I said he was "real country" but a song like this makes you appreciate what Jamey Johnson is doing even that much more, sorry Eric, but The Outsiders sounds closer to Nickelback than any Waylon Jennings song I've heard!
