Album Review

Patty Loveless has created one of the most consistent bodies of work within contemporary country, and Long Stretch of Lonesome does nothing to erase the notion that she is one of the finest singers of the '90s. Stylistically, there isn't much difference between Long Stretch of Lonesome and her other records, but the key to its success is Loveless' unerring knack for picking the right material. Usually, contemporary country albums have a few hit singles surrounded by filler, but with any Loveless album, you can expect consistently excellent material, and this is no exception.

Good one!

Title track touched me the most of all. Though she doesn't have the greatest vocal range, that doesn't matter. She makes up for that with a stunning pearl of a voice with pure emotion resonating from every note she sings. I'd call this the last great abum she ever did (before reinventing her self in the bluegrass genre) before her career began to slow down. I absolutly love the upbeatness and positive vibe I get from the opening track, most all her albums open with an unforgettable fast track. 'To Have You Back Again' is another stunner as is 'Water Into Wine'. I'm NOT a George Jones fan at all but their voices blend together fantastic on 'You Don't Seem To Miss Me'. Love that song. Buy this.

Awesome, Simply Awesome!

This CD has to be one of her best CDs to date alongside "The Trouble With The Truth" and "Strong Heart". The songs range from heartfelt to upbeat and have a great message to go along with it! Some of the best songs on there include "To Have You Back Again", "Long Stretch of Lonesome", "Like Water Into Wine", "That's Exactly What I Mean", and her chart topping duet with George Jones', "You Don't Seem To Miss Me"! I hope she comes out with more CDs like this in the future! Keep up the great work Patty Loveless!

One star until all the songs are represented!

I have been searching high and low for "You Don't Seem to Miss Me" on ITunes. It was one of the first tunes I requested when I got my IPod. Amazon now offers it as a single song download. If a label is going to give ITunes the ability to carry the album, why not make ALL of the tracks available? I'm a loyal ITuner, but I'm going to have to cross over for this particular tune.

One of the most popular female singers of the new traditionalist movement, Patty Loveless rose to stardom thanks to her blend of honky tonk and country-rock, not to mention a plaintive, emotional ballad style. Her late-'80s records for MCA were generally quite popular, earning her comparisons to Patsy Cline, but most critics agreed that she truly came into her own as an artist when she moved to Epic in the early '90s. Loveless was born Patricia Lee Ramey in Pikeville, KY, in 1957 and spent most...
