Album Review

Performed by a number of various artists and orchestras (Mark Ayers, the City of Prague Philharmonic, the London Screen Orchestra, to name but a few), this collection from Silva Screen (released in 2007) truly does contain 100 of the greatest film themes, from Chariots of Fire, Star Wars, Schindler's List, and Barry Lyndon, to James Bond, The Great Escape, Breakfast at Tiffany's, et. al, all in one convenient place. Although not the original recordings of these themes, the versions here are well performed, and would make a good addition to any music collection.

Customer Reviews

Quantity but not quality

If you're looking for the "Folex" collection of film music, then this is it. These tracks are very poorly produced, and pale in comparison to the original recordings. Most of these tracks sound pingy and harsh, and don't have the fullness and clarity of sound like the originals. If you simply want a reference list of important film music, then, by all means, buy this. But if you want quality, I suggest you look elsewhere.

100 Greatest Film Themes

In order to make a movie any good, it has to have a great soundtrack. Here are those great soundtracks!

I just have one song - Dragonheart

The theme to Dragonheart is one of the most beautiful scores I've ever come across, and this performance does a wonderful job. However, I'm a little disappointed in the recording quality, as there are two or three instances where there is some crackle that I can hear in my headphones, resulting from too low a bit-rate or something. I think the iTunes needs to sell this kind of music (instrumental) with a higer bitrate, 128kps just can't quite cut the range needed for a lot of this music.
