Wonderfully Played and Recorded

Listening to this recording has been a deeply moving and spiritual moment for me. Richard Souther not only plays the right notes, at the right time, but has a touch that embues worship and thoughtful prayer. I am keeping this one in my favorites to listen to when I need calm and strength. Thank you, Richard, for sharing your wonderful talent with us!

Deeply Spiritual and Beautiful

It hopefully is not insulting to say this project is perfect for times of prayer and meditation. Many albums designed for such are either dull and only fill the space so that the pilgrim can avoid silence, or they are so overblown as to artificially heighten the experience. Souther's phenomenal record, I think, helps one to a state where distractions melt away.

That is not to say this isn't fine art. It is. I love the melding if acoustic and electronic, and the way the music uses silence and space. This is good, necessary, music for the spiritual being in all of us.

As a promising session keyboardist in Los Angeles, Souther began landing work in recording studios while still in his teens, eventually performing with such artists as Barry McGuire, Debby Boone, the Mothers of Invention, and Phil Keaggy. In 1980, however, a near-fatal bout with food poisoning suspended Souther's career for several years.
