Back...And Stronger Than Ever!!!

It's been a rough couple of years for Exit Calm fans. After the long awaited debut finally saw the light of day in May of 2010, things seemed as though they were poised to erupt for this South Yorkshire foursome. It was , sadly, not to be however as the debut was a stunning exercise in spaced out psychedelic rock (all lame Verve references aside). At the end of 2010 Exit Calm sat down, said goodbye to their back catalog, holed themselves up and began the long process of writing. The fruits of that labor are evident in their triumphant new single "The Rapture". Exit Calm have taken everything thier loyal fan base loved about their previous material and added a , dare I say, more radio friendly tone to it. It really is quite a feat to stay true what the loyals love while making an obvious bid to plead for wider acceptance. It's something much bigger bands attempt to mostly scorn and ridicule. Even a young band like The Boxer Rebellion alienated a portion of their audience with their latest release "The Cold Still" (although I loved it). Here, Exit Calm wear their intentions right on their sleeves, as Simon Lindley's slick bass groove and Scott Pemberton's thumping drums meld perfectly with Rob Marshall's ethereal guitar and Nicky Smith's passionate vocals. As hard as Exit Calm are playing for a wider acceptance though, Smith's lyrics are some of his harshest yet. Telling, what seems to be, the story of a close relationship that met a brutally bitter end, when Smith belts out "you're in the dictionary next to what a b***h is" you can hear his blood pressure rising. This a stunning piece of music and is the song that should break Exit Calm to a much bigger audience and give them the clout they need to finally make the move outside of England and visit the rest of the world. Expect this summer's follow-up album ,"The Future Isn't What It Used To Be", to contain more beefed up rock tracks such as this as Exit Calm are only getting started.
